Spanish footwear brand Castañer was founded in 1927 by two cousins Luis Castañer and Tomás Serra. A vision to reinvent the classic espadrilles style that was synonymous with Spanish heritage, led to a legendary meeting with designer Yves Saint Laurent in 1970 to create the first jute-soled espadrille wedge. The wedges creation was a defining for the Castañer brand and led to further impactful creations such as the Carina and Pablo.
